Introducing Q PSYCHOLOGY

Welcome to Q Psychology – a private psychology practice with Melbourne clinics in St Kilda and Carlton and a Geelong clinic in Belmont. Q Psychology supports a diverse range of clients and is a leading private psychology practice for the LGBTQIAP+ community.

Our purpose & values

Together, we aim to create a safe space to positively impact mental health for individuals and communities.

Community

We acknowledge and respect the importance of our work with, and connection to, various communities (particularly the LGBTQIAP+ community). We will strive to understand the specific contexts and experiences of the communities we support. We will work to improve their mental health, and their lives, both at an individual level and at a community level. We will work to empower, and advocate for, disadvantaged communities. Internally, we will always strive to build a community, family, and connected culture within our team.

Trail blazers

We will be loud leaders in the mental health space. We will be brave and courageous in our work and we will do the right thing regardless of fear. We will be at the forefront of developments in mental health and therapy. We will use our work in mental health to make positive change in the world.

Beyond the couch

We will seek out opportunities to empower and support clients beyond the norm of therapy. We recognise that therapists and clients have a core commonality: humanity. It is this humanity that will drive our work. We will be authentic and compassionate in our approaches and innovative, creative, dynamic, and adaptive in our work.

Our service works closely with various external medical providers and healthcare networks (e.g., gender practitioners, paediatricians, endocrinologists, psychiatrists) to provide multidisciplinary healthcare.

Our Gender Service team have extensive training and experience in supporting trans, gender diverse, and non-binary folk. The service can help people explore and understand their gender as well as provide assessment and treatment of gender dysphoria and other often co-occurring presentations (e.g., autism and ADHD). The service can also people to affirm their gender (i.e., ‘transition’). This may involve support with social transition such as exploring name and pronoun changes, changes to gender expression, supporting families, friends, schools, workplaces, and other areas of a person’s life to support their gender affirmation.
