If we are able to fill the reschedule/cancellation, then you will not be charged. We do try hard to replace all rescheduled/cancelled appointments, but it is not always possible. Medicare rebates are not available for rescheduled or cancelled appointments.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I make an appointment?

Please contact Q Psychology via email on talk@qpsychology.com.au or by phone on (03) 7023 4780. When making email contact, please ensure you include your full name, mobile number, and a brief overview of what you are wanting to focus on in therapy. Our dedicated intake team will then be in touch within 1-2 business days.

Do I need a referral from a GP?

A GP referral and Mental Healthcare Plan will entitle you to Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Any GP can complete a Mental Healthcare Plan for you and refer you directly to Q Psychology. However, you don’t need to have a Mental Healthcare Plan or referral to see a therapist, you only need these to receive Medicare rebates.

What is a Provisional Psychologist?

Provisional Psychologists have completed at least a four year degree at University (three year undergraduate degree in psychology and a honours/graduate diploma fourth year). They are currently completing either a general registration pathway or are completing a postgraduate Masters, Doctorate, or Masters/PhD. Provisional psychologists are qualified to provide psychological assessment and treatment under the supervision of a Board-Registered Psychology Supervisor and can provide affordable psychological care to our clients. There is no requirement for a mental healthcare plan or referral and therefore long-term psychological treatment without Medicare limitations is available via this service. Q Psychology is passionate about supporting the development of psychologists through these programs and is proud to be a placement location for Provisional Psychologists.

What will happen in the first session?

Q Psychology is dedicated to best practice in psychology and therapy. As such, your first session will consist of a comprehensive assessment. Your therapist will explore with you the difficulties and issues that have led you to seek support, as well as ask questions about mental health history, family and psychosocial background, and help you to establish clear goals for your work together.

How do the payments & rebates work?

Payment is made at the end of each session either by credit card or cash. As long as your bank account is set up with Medicare then your clinician will be able to process any applicable rebate at the end of each session.

Most private healthcare cover policies that are inclusive of allied health extras will provide some rebate for sessions. Please check with your private healthcare fund for your entitlement prior to attending your session.

Given the current community health concerns we ask all those who visit our clinic to follow these guidelines:

  3. TeleHealth appointments are available and your treating psychologist will discuss this option with you directly.

Our practice receives regular professional cleaning. We will continue to prioritise your health and safety.
